To Whom it May Concern,
In considering whether or not to air Dr. Laura's television show, I am Some what confused at the stand some people are taking. When a person, such as Dr. Laura, supports biblical values, there is something objectionable about it, yet when television stations air programs that are contrary to biblical or moral values, people are told, "If you don't like/ agree with it, then don't watch it." Many programs contain material that is violent, sexual in nature, and basically inappropriate for family viewing. Many shows also portray issues around homosexuality. If there are shows that I find offensive or are contrary to my belief system and what I want my family to watch, we simply don't watch it, or we watch it together and have an opportunity for discussion of certain issues. Why should it be any different for Dr. Laura? She stands for a differing viewpoint--lots of shows do. If it goes against what some people believe, don't watch it.
Those who are in disagreement over homosexuality and other moral issues--in my case as a Christian--do so because they choose to believe and live their lives according to God as is written in the Bible. Others may choose to live their lives according to other beliefs and principles. God gave everyone the right to make this choice and live by the values they have chosen. Because some of us have chosen "God's path" does not make us "hateful," wrong, or undeserving of voicing our opinions about moral issues.
As a Christian, I am accepting of all people--God did create us all and loves us all--regardless of our belief system. I can accept people who have chosen a different lifestyle than my own without having to compromise my values. I just can't see how we can continue to support immorality without giving the side of morality equal time.
I support Dr. Laura--although I do know that she can come across as kind of harsh in her responses about issues she feels strongly about. However, she has helped to steer many people in a better direction in maintaining strong family values--isn't this an important issue for all of us to look at? She's only supporting the belief system she has chosen to follow. We should all have the right to choose and live by that which gives us strength and purpose in life--it is not "hateful" that some of us have chosen to live under the morality of God's guidelines for us as stated in the Bible.
Sincerely,
